Yesterday we went Geocaching.
McD and I picked up P3 & Doodlebug to go on this little adventure with us.
Our first stop was to find a cache in a local park.
You can't go to the park and not play. :)
The guys are headed in the direction that they think the cache might be. McD walked around like this all day. He had his head down looking at the phone following the little dots. For a while we had to remind him that HE was the blue dot. P3 and I laughed at him a lot, but he took it really well.
It was nice to laugh a little. I said there was good, bad and yummy. Well, we had some bad news the other day. The only reason I am even mentioning it here is because I mentioned that we had our 5th grandbaby on the way. Well, that changed over the weekend. It wasn't meant to be.
Let's get back to the good.
While we were all wandering around the park looking for our very first cache, this little pup came to visit.
We found it! Well, P3 found it! It is called a bottlecap cache. It wasn't even close to the tree they were headed for, it was underneath the merry-go-round. I am not telling anyone the name of the cache, or the location, so I feel okay telling where we found it.
Doodlebug didn't want to miss a thing.
Here is the log that was in the cache.
We signed our name and then we put the log back into the cache, and the cache back where we found it.
We logged that find on www.geocaching.com, and then headed to our next find. We just stayed in town but we found 6 that day. Our goal was to find one with a toy in it so the Doodlebug would have some swag from our day of geocaching together.
Our second find...
This one didn't have a toy in it either, but DB wanted to leave some of her silly bands. Notice she has plenty on her wrist. :)
Will this one have a toy in it?
Guess where we found this one?
Yep, right in there. Crazy huh!
That was our 4th find.
Our 5th find we headed to find a cache over by the rodeo grounds. The name of the cache was something like DO NOT FIND THIS CACHE. So, the rebel in me came out. When someone tells you not to do something, doesn't that make you want to do it a little bit more? Well, we went to find it.
I only had one memory card with me, and it was full. So I didn't get anymore photos.
We were just getting ready to give up on finding this cache, and our new friends pulled up. You see, when we were looking for our 3rd find we ran across a couple that just happened to be geocaching too. As we were walking up P3 said, "You think those people are geocaching?" I looked up and the guy was feeling around on the fire hydrant. How funny is that? We got to the cache location, and we asked them if they were doing the same thing we were. It was hiliarious. We all got a really good laugh out of it, and then we worked together on a couple of finds.
So, as we were looking for our 4th find, this couple drove up. They were trying to find this one as well, and had looked for it before. We were standing right where the coordinates said the cache was, but we could not find it. Our new friend said that the guy that had hidden the cache sometimes puts them in trees. We walked over to the tree, and there it was. We made a great team.
After we all signed the log, she said that they were having a hard time finding the one over at City Hall. They asked us to go back over there with them and see if we could help them find it. So, we did.
We got there, but we couldn't find it. Her husband went in to see if there might be a clue. Nope, but the City Manager came out to help us find it. One of the women that works at City Hall came out to help as well, and when we still couldn't find it she went back inside to call the guy that had hidden it. As we were waiting for her to get back, we found it.
It was the best hidden cache I have ever seen. I know, I've only seen 6 of them, but this one was creative. It looked like an electrical outlet that had been covered with a solid cover. It had some pretty strong magnets on it, and we almost didn't find it.
After we all had another good laugh about how hard it was to find, we noticed that the guy (Bear) that had hidden the cache was parked across the street watching us try to find his cache. He drove over and introduced himself to us, he already knew the other couple, and taught us a little more about geocaching.
We are ready to go geocaching again! I just wish there were more kid friendly caches out there.
Thanks for all your help 2moore, it was great to meet you!
