Bonneville vs. Mustang GT
I have a friend that has been looking for a new ride. She really, really wanted a Mustang GT. But this friend of mine is really, really in need of a new car. Back a few years ago, when she was in this same predicament she got a Buick. She really wanted a Mustang back then too, but she knew then and now that it was best for her to buy something used and a lot less expensive. When she gets the car of her dreams it is going to be a convertible and loaded to the gills. She has some self-discipline that is for sure.
So Monday I am walking out of my office and I hear someone yell my name. I hate it when that happens cause what if this person is yelling at someone else named Julie. I would look like an idiot by turning around. I've looked like an idiot before, so I turned to see who it was. I felt like an idiot. I didn't see anyone I knew. I saw cars, and none that I recognized. Then she yelled my name again, and this time she was laughing. I knew right away who it was. I found my friend Muncy in a 2002 Bonneville SLE. The first words out of her mouth were, "This doesn't look like a grandma car does it?" And no, it didn't. It was very sporty for a Bonneville. In fact, when I walked out of my office and glanced at it, I thought it was a Grand Prix. At second glance I knew it wasn't, but it was very sporty. Second sentence out of her mouth was, "You are being kidnapped! Can you go?" Of course I can go. I never pass up a chance to drive a new car. So she called McD and told him she had kidnapped me. He did the whole thing about needing to talk to me, after he told her that I was not to drive any new vehicles for myself. She agreed and passed the phone to me. Then I got the same instructions. Ahh, the love. We should have asked for ransom. :)
We took off through downtown, picked up my mail at the post office and headed for the other side of town. I had errands to run while she had me kidnapped. We were finished with errands and trying to decide where to go next. We still had to see how it drove/rode on the highway, punch it really good and see if it would move, and check all the bells and whistles. We were pulling up to a red light and it hit me, I need to be in the back seat checking it out and seeing how the ride is back there. Have you ever seen a one person Chinese Fire Drill? She stopped at the red light, I unbuckled my seat belt which slows things down in a fire drill, got out and jumped in the back seat. Yes, there was a lot of traffic and I was being gawked at. Oh well! We were laughing and having a great time. The back seat was loaded as well, there was a lot of room and it rode really well. Since I will be the one stuck in the back at times I had to check it out. Then we hit the highway. She was talking to her Mom on the phone trying to convince her that it does not look like a grandma car. I apparently am the best person to ask because I will tell you if it does or not. Back when she bought the Buick she asked me if it looked like a grandma car. I said yes. Lesson number one, don't ask me anything unless you want me to tell you what I really think. I got back in the front seat, heated seats by the way, and we tested the air conditioner. The AC went out in her grandma car so this was a must. It is 28 degrees outside and we have the air cranked, but we had our heated seats on.
Later that night she went to pick up her family from Tae Kwon Do (I have no idea if that is spelled right) and her 8 year old daughter said, "Momma this is really pretty!" She got in the front seat, she normally rides in the back seat, and was oohing and ahhing at all the cool stuff. Muncy turned her heat on in her seat and she loved it. Then her daughter said, "Momma, this is better than the Mustang. This one has a lot more buttons." Then she moved to the back seat and said, "Momma, this is better than the Mustang because I have a lot of room in here and I didn't in the Mustang. I like the Bonneville better than the Mustang." All Muncy could say was, "Ya think?" and laugh. I can't wait until she is all grown up and we can remind her of the days she liked the Bonneville better than the Mustangs. One day that is going to change.
She ended up buying it and I know this morning she is going to be so glad. We have some snow on the ground and her buns are going to be happy and warm on her way to the studio. Tuesday morning she will be even happier. She is having them put a remote starter on it Monday, so Tuesday she won't even have to get out of the house to start her car. Wouldn't that be nice?
