At the
age of only sixteen, Tyler King has accomplished things that some people only
dream of accomplishing. Recording a world-class record that rivals country
music’s top artists and performing for one of the world’s top record companies
are just a couple of the many great achievements made by this young
singer/songwriter. Tyler’s debut album titled, “You Complete Me,” was released
in December 2009.
Tyler
has grown up in a small town in Northeast Oklahoma. His whole life has been
filled with singing and music for as long as he can remember. At the age of
four, Tyler recalls belting out Tim McGraw’s “It’s Your Love” for his family at
home. “I would stand up, grab a remote or a pen for a makeshift microphone, and
just start singing while my mom recorded me with the camcorder,” Tyler says.
Ever since then, he has loved being in the spotlight. Any chance he had to sing
for someone, he would take. Tyler largely credits where he is today to having a
family that constantly made it a point to encourage him to keep singing and to
dream big.
When
Tyler first met his soon-to-be producers in July 2008, he had no idea what was
in store for him and his career. Larry Brockway and Rodney Lay both saw great
promise and potential in the then fifteen-year-old singer. Larry and Rodney
asked Tyler if he wrote his own songs. Tyler replied with an optimistic, “No,
but I can try.” Less than a week later, Tyler came back to them with the song
that would soon draw some major attention to him, “You Complete Me.” The two
were amazed at how quick he picked up songwriting. Tyler soon was on track to
having his first record produced. From September 2008 to February 2009, Tyler,
alongside Larry, Rodney, and countless other people, worked on recording,
editing, and mastering his record. Finally in mid-February, after many long
days and sleepless nights, it was finished.
Once the record was finished,
Larry and Rodney took it to Nashville to play it for some of country music’s
most influential people. Everyone they played it for liked what they heard. Two
months later, they were told to bring Tyler to Nashville and have him perform
in front of the executive vice-president of Sony Records’ A&R department.
They began organizing the trip and on June 25th, Tyler and a group
of some of Nashville’s best musicians played a six-song showcase in Nashville.
Currently,
Tyler and his management are communicating with another major record company in
Nashville while also waiting on word from Sony. In the meantime however, Tyler
has begun generating a great following on MySpace and around his hometown area.
He gets thousands of hits and plays on his profile every day. Tyler will
continue working very hard to not only accomplish his goals, but to achieve his
dreams.
Tyler is a very talented young man. I was given his cd, You Complete Me, by my good buddy Vicki (his cousin). I really like it. In fact there is one Tom Petty song that I think Tyler does pretty darn good. There are a couple of places on the cd that you can hear his young voice, but it is nice to hear that now because give him a few years and that will be gone.
One of you lucky readers will be listening to him soon.
There's not much more I can say about Tyler. I think his bio says it all.
Here's what you need to do, tell me what your favorite song is. Now, if you are anything like me you have more than one favorite song. Enter them all. One song per entry. This is going to be a random drawing, and I will announce the winner Wednesday, February 24th. It will be in the evening sometime, just to give you a better idea of when it will be on Wednesday.
