Recently I was asked if I would be interested in reviewing a book. My first response was that I would have to read it before I could recommend it, or even give away an autographed copy of said book. I am a bit of an impatient person, okay so a bit is a little bit of an exaggeration. I am not patient at all. I am working on it, really. Right after I hit send on the email back to Joe Rohrlich, I went and googled the book's title. Then I was a bit impatient. I had to wait for him to send me the book.
The book came in the mail and I didn't really have a lot of time to read it. I had laid the book on the table so I would see it every time I walked by. Finally last night I was able to start reading it. I love this book. As everyone already knows, I kind of like quotes. Just a little bit. This book is full of quotes, but not just any quotes. There are quotes from 10-year-olds and 100-year-olds.
"Integrity is being able to be trusted by somebody else, and that's a great feeling. But if you can't be trusted, it feels as rotten as moldy turkey on a strawberry pie covered in fungus!" ~jack f., philadelphia, pa
That is just one of the quotes that made me literally laugh out loud. If you think about it, some of the best advice we can get is from a kid or one of our elders. Kids don't have a clue about the complicated side of things, or they shouldn't. They usually say what they think, and if we would just listen to them we might learn something.
"If you want a friend, try to be as sweet as candy and not as sour as lemons." ~ethan a., lexington, ky
See what I mean? I know some people that are sour as lemons and they don't have many friends. Makes perfectly good sense to me. :)
Those are just a couple of quotes from the 10-year-olds in the book. Some of the quotes are super cute, and some just make you sit and think a minute. Here's one that will make you think, or it did me. You can tell that it was from one of the 100-year-olds because this is the way things used to be.
"In life, the one thing you can control is your word. When you give it, you're making a promise that you may forget, but the person who hears it never will." ~Betty Matoff, Los Angeles, CA
My first thought was, oh that is so true. I know a lot of people like that, but I also know several that have either forgotten what your word really means, or never knew to begin with. Have I mentioned that I love this book?
This is a perfect Christmas gift for that person that is hard to buy for. I am going to see if I can find it at our local Hastings, but if not I am ordering some from Amazon. My grandparents are kind of hard to buy for, and I think this would be perfect for them. In my opinion, people of all ages will enjoy this book. It makes me smile. As I read through the book I catch myself grinning from ear to ear. I have been reading portions of the book outloud to McD, but I think he will read it when I am finished. See I haven't even finished it, and I love it!
Buy this book! You won't regret it.
More on this book after I finish reading it. :) (Read: I am ready to go to bed and read some more of this book.)
