Wowsa! Jury Duty day two was way more than I expected. Golly, let me see where to start. I had to report again at 8:30 yesterday morning and thought that I might be able to get out of there early, like the day before. But no such luck.
At 9 am they begin drawing names out of the hopper again and I think every muscle in my body was tense. I was not called and I was glad. Nineteen people were called and the judge told the rest of us that we would have to stay in case anyone was excused one of us would have to replace them. Again, they used the hopper. At first things went rather smoothly, no one was being excused and it seemed like we might get out of there at a decent time. I was hoping for early afternoon so I could play hooky for the rest of the day.
At 10 am we took a short recess aka potty break and at that point I was beginning to hope that I would be called. There were several people that were excused because of their strong beliefs, it was mostly the ones that said they would not even consider the death penalty.
By the time I got back from lunch I was ready to be called. My name did not get called. At this point I had determined that I could do it, I could consider all three sentences - death, life without parole and life with the possibilty of parole. This may make me sound hard, or like I am not a compassionate person but I do believe in the death penalty and I could consider the death penalty in a case like this one.
After lunch the defense attorney took over the questioning and his style was a little different than that of the prosecution. He was a bit more straight forward about the case. At this time I cannot discuss details, but stay tuned. I hope to have a nice and juicy post on Friday.
There were several people excused again that afternoon, but these were the people that were dead set about killing the bastard using the death penalty. You see the defense attorney was giving us details about what happened and how the defendant is guilty. Well, one man said, "Why even consider the other two sentences if he did what you say he did? He should receive the death penalty." The defense attorney spent 45 minutes grilling this poor man trying to get him to say that he would not even consider the other two sentences. And it was the same thing over and over. The same questions over and over. The same stinkin' wooden pew all.day.long. We didn't get out of there until 5:15 pm.
And.we.have.to.go.back.tomorrow.
I think instead of making Tera host Thankful Thursday we will just do it like we did the last time, if that is okay. Leave a note in the comments so we can all see who is participating. I need to get with Willowtree and find out how I can make a button or something that would just have all the participants on it. Then no one would have to comment about posting. Does that make sense?
