We had a virtual baby shower for Karmyn yesterday, see previous post, and I chose to give her a baby monitor with a video camera. When I found that gift online it triggered a memory, and now I am sharing it with you.
McD went to see the kids without me one time. This time it was our turn to stay with P3 and his family. They all said their goodnights and went to bed, and then the next morning McD got up first. When P3 and his girlfriend came out of their bedroom they found Poppy and Schemma in the living room together. McD swore to them that Schemma was already awake when he went in to look at her.
Fast forward a year... .
Last month McD and I went to see the kids. Again, it was our turn to stay at P3's but this time Celeste (P3's girlfriend) told McD and I that Schemma needed to sleep in as long as she could in the morning or she would be really cranky. We said okay and headed for bed, when Celeste said, "You do know that we have a baby monitor and last time we heard you in there waking Schemma up."
You should have seen the look on McD's face. It was hilarious! He did not go in and wake her up this time, but he did learn a valuable baby monitor lesson.
Swampy is having a virtual baby shower for our friend Karmyn. Here are a few things I have found for her and their new baby boy.
The Chair
I love this stroller too.

That site has some really cool stuff. I love the Star Egg Nightlight.
Oh, and here is the high chair I am getting her. It is just too cute. Kind of retro, what do you think?
And last but certainly not least...

A baby monitor. Oh and I have a baby monitor story for you. Hmmm, I will post that tomorrow. It is hilarious.
I hope that you have a great baby shower. I can't wait to see what all you get. :)
Now get your hiney's in gear and go see who else is attending at Swampy's place.
Yesterday as I was driving home in the rain I did what I normally do, I called my parents. Rain is something that we always need and when we are getting rain I always call to see if they are getting rain. We chatted about the weather for a bit and then we moved on to other things.
We chatted about the price of gasoline ($3.50/gal) and diesel ($4.05/gal). I feel horrible because due to the price of fuel we are going to miss Mother's Day and my nephew's 13th birthday. Then the next weekend is one of my cousin's high school graduation, but how could I go to that if I don't go home for Mother's Day & my nephew's birthday (they are on the same day). Oh and then there is the bedlam baseball game coming up, and the ranch rodeo, oh and I am sure there is something else I am just not thinking of. I am just very fortunate to have a family that understands why we can't make it for all of those events. Well, except for maybe the baseball game. Maybe my parents could meet us up there, hmmm...maybe my nephew too. I may be onto something here. :)
Somehow during our conversation my dad told me that he had to take a couple of guys to a neighboring town to take their CDL tests. He already has his so he had to go with them. I didn't realize that you can get a CDL permit and everything, just like a regular drivers license. For some reason, I decided to tell him about the day that I took my drivers test.
My family had a big 4X4 Chevy Blazer and that was what I had to take my driving test in. I got behind the wheel and the cop got in the passenger side. We cruised around town changing lanes, passing people, stopping at stop signs, etc. Then it was time for the last thing, parallel parking. Yuck! I still do not like to parallel park. I will walk a mile before I parallel park in a close parking space. Part of me just doesn't like to do it, and the other part of me is afraid someone will hit my vehicle, and then the last part of me just doesn't want to be embarrassed when I can't do it right the first time.
So, the cop tells me to drive around this block because he knows the perfect place for this part of the test. The dread was building inside of me as soon as he told me where to go. You see, he was taking me to parallel park - um, the hardest part of the test - right behind where my Dad worked. I don't think Dad was in the shop that day, but all of the other guys were. I took my first shot at parallel parking and I blew it. I was distracted okay?
Everyone that worked at my Dad's shop had come out and was standing there in a single file line watching me try to parallel park. I was so embarrassed when I didn't do it the first time. But the cop saw what was happening. He asked me if I knew I had an audience and I told him that I did, and explained who they were. Then he said, okay let's do this one more time but this time show them how it is done. And I did!
When I turned to wave at all the guys, they were clapping for me. :) And I passed my test.
I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everybody.

A man had just fallen from a cliff right before my eyes and now I was standing over him. He HAD to be in shock, but he was very calm as he told us all not to touch him. He repeated it over and over. Then he began assessing the damage. He knew that he was badly broken, but he was an EMT and knew not to move until help got there. I mean real help, not all of us standing over him. He asked a lot of questions. "Is my right leg broken?" "Yes," we all said in unison. "Is my left leg broken?" "No, but your left ankle is," said one older lady. He then asked about each of his hands and arms. After all was said and done, he learned that he had a broken ankle, broken leg, and a broken arm. It was probably the grossest thing I had ever seen. After I realized that I really wasn't needed, I headed back to find the guys so they wouldn't start worrying about me.
When McD and I started dating I still had the first car I ever owned. I was driving a red 1984 Chevy Chevette, aka The Vette. I hated that car, and I wanted something else desperately. Selling it was my first priority. I put an ad in the paper and within 2 weeks I had it sold. A nice Hispanic family bought it. We were both thrilled, me to get rid of that car and them to get a car.
I had already been buying Auto Traders, and reading the classifieds. Then I found it. It was a gray 1990 Chevy Beretta. I got the windows tinted and put new tires on it. It was a bit more sporty than I was used to, and I had fun with it.
McD surprised me one day with a puppy. It was a yellow lab and we named him Gus. I took that puppy whenever I could. He would sit in the front passenger seat when it was just he and I, and when one of the kids were with me he would either ride in their lap or in the back seat. He outgrew that car right away, but he loved riding in the Jeep with me and McD.
That is about when I got my wild hair. I saw the movie Ghost, and I wanted my hair to look just like Demi Moore's hair in that movie. I didn't tell anyone my plans, I just went for it. At the time my hair was really long. When I wore it down it was down to my lower back. It was there one minute and gone about 60 minutes later. As soon as I got my hair cut the first place I went was to McD's office.
